Are you hosting any parties this holiday season? 🙋🏼‍♀️ #walmartpartner We recently hosted a gingerbread house decorating contest and it turned out to be so much fun! I found everything we needed from the holiday-themed appetizer ingredients to the gingerbread house kits to the candy to decorate and more all on @walmart. Here are a few tips we picked up along the way:

- In order to save time (and not forget anything) I love to fill my cart online and then schedule a time to pick it up. Such a game changer, especially this time of year.
- In order to spend as much time decorating as possible, buy the pre-made house kits. We offered two options for the teams to select from (linked).
- Having a firm foundation is critical so I picked up some affordable art boards to place the houses on (linked).
- Buy a mix of textures and colors for a variety of looks. I bought cereal and pretzels for more natural texture and then a variety of candy for the more decorative looks.
- I found the cutest plastic containers for all the candy. I can use them for so many other things and they’re much more affordable (and easier to store) than the glass versions! (linked)
- You’ll want to make a lot of extra frosting (the kits don’t usually have enough). Simply search for royal frosting recipes for the best option for gingerbread houses.
- We drew names to assign teams. The teams could then choose if they wanted to compete in the “Best Overall” category or “Funniest” category
- We allowed each person to bring a “secret ingredient” to decorate with. I also picked up a few extra on Walmart for those that didn’t have time to grab something. My favorite was fresh rosemary sprigs to use for trees and garland.
- Check with a local school or friends to see if they can use the leftover supplies for another decorating party.
- Most importantly, have fun!

- In order to save time (and not forget anything) I love to fill my cart online and then schedule a time to pick it up. Such a game changer, especially this time of year.
- In order to spend as much time decorating as possible, buy the pre-made house kits. We offered two options for the teams to select from (linked).
- Having a firm foundation is critical so I picked up some affordable art boards to place the houses on (linked).
- Buy a mix of textures and colors for a variety of looks. I bought cereal and pretzels for more natural texture and then a variety of candy for the more decorative looks.
- I found the cutest plastic containers for all the candy. I can use them for so many other things and they’re much more affordable (and easier to store) than the glass versions! (linked)
- You’ll want to make a lot of extra frosting (the kits don’t usually have enough). Simply search for royal frosting recipes for the best option for gingerbread houses.
- We drew names to assign teams. The teams could then choose if they wanted to compete in the “Best Overall” category or “Funniest” category
- We allowed each person to bring a “secret ingredient” to decorate with. I also picked up a few extra on Walmart for those that didn’t have time to grab something. My favorite was fresh rosemary sprigs to use for trees and garland.
- Check with a local school or friends to see if they can use the leftover supplies for another decorating party.
- Most importantly, have fun!
